Internal Medicine Residency Program

Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Knapp Medical Center

Knapp Medical Center is proud to continue its commitment to serving the community and shaping the future of healthcare through education.  Our comprehensive three-year Internal Medicine Residency Program provides 13 positions in each postgraduate year, with a total complement of 39 residents.

Through a rigorous curriculum, hands-on clinical experience, and mentorship from experienced faculty, our program prepares residents to excel in their medical careers while making a meaningful impact on patient care. We remain dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment that emphasizes excellence, innovation, and compassionate service.

Our GME programs foster dynamic learning environments that prepare future physicians for career success.

Our Mission

The Knapp Internal Medicine Residency Program is dedicated to preparing the future physicians with comprehensive training and expertise to become skilled and compassionate practitioners, committed to improving health outcomes for both individuals and communities. With the Rio Grande Valley’s rapid growth, we recognize the critical need to cultivate high-quality, culturally attuned physicians who are devoted to clinical excellence, evidence-based care, and advancing community health. Our program focuses on reducing disease burdens and addressing health disparities in the region. Residents in our program will address the patient needs by being research-oriented, culturally competent, and committed to continuous self-improvement and lifelong learning.
