Weslaco hospital achieves ‘exemplary performance’ in preventing complications, re-admissions of patients
WESLACO, August 2017 – Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco has become one of only 12 hospitals in the state of Texas to receive two awards for quality care of patients from the Texas Human and Health Services Commission.
Knapp Medical Center is receiving the “quality metrics” awards from the state based on “exemplary performance” in preventing complications to hospital patients and also in preventing re-admission of patients to the hospital.
“The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) congratulates hospitals that received a safety-net hospital quality award,” the commission stated in a letter notifying Knapp Medical Center of its awards. “We greatly appreciate your partnership and service on behalf of Texans. Congratulations again on this very notable achievement!”
The awards are the result of the dedication of physicians, nurses and other hospital staff members at Knapp Medical Center, whose teamwork enables the hospital to provide a “continuum of care” from the physician’s office, to the hospital stay, and then after the patient is discharged.
To promote this continuity of care, Knapp Medical Center maintains good working relationships with facilities in the Valley which provide post-hospital care that is required for some patients. This includes rehab centers, skilled nursing facilities and long-term care facilities.
