Weslaco hospital cited as high-performing hospital in two specialties by national publication
(Weslaco, TX – August 15, 2017) — Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco has been recognized as a high-performing hospital for treating patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), in U.S. News & World Report’s magazine’s 2017-2018 “Best Hospitals” listings.
The national recognition is the latest award for Knapp Medical Center, which as the only full-service hospital in the Mid-Valley, has distinguished itself by providing a high level of care to patients from Weslaco, Mercedes, Donna, Alamo, Edcouch, Elsa, La Villa, Monte Alto, Progreso, Progreso Lakes and other Valley communities. Previously, Knapp was one of the few hospitals in the Valley to achieve a 4-star rating in the “Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings” by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The rankings, which analyzed data from more than 5,000 hospitals nationwide, have been published annually by U.S. News & World Report for the past 28 years.
Rene J. Lopez, MD, FACHE, RRT, Chief Executive Officer for Knapp Medical Center, said the hospital’s high ratings are a testament to the work of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals who are dedicated to providing “the highest quality healthcare to residents of the Mid-Valley – every patient, every time.”
“Being recognized as a high-performing hospital by U.S. News & World Report is a demonstration of the level of commitment our physicians and employees have in ensuring that our patients receive the best possible experience — and the specialized care and personalized attention that they deserve,” Mr. Lopez added.
Anna Hinojosa, RN, MSN, Chief Nursing Officer for Knapp, said the high rating and other awards help demonstrate the excellent care that is being provided to patients at Knapp, and is an important factor for residents to recognize when they weigh their healthcare options.
“Knapp Medical Center’s clinical team works consistently to pursue the highest standards for clinical excellence, and we are extremely proud of this achievement,” Ms. Hinojosa added. “We at Knapp Medical Center remain committed to the pursuit of patient-centered excellence in all that we do.”
