Knapp Medical Center Provides Award-Winning Care; Attractive Facilities, Close to Home for New Moms & Babies
The maternity center at Knapp Medical Center enables women in the Mid-Valley to enjoy the beautiful experience of a child’s birth in an attractive and very convenient setting that is close to home and the support of their family.
The Knapp Women’s Services Department also features private rooms with relaxing décor, including colorful “sky panels” in the ceilings which depict blue skies, clouds, palm trees, and other comforting images.
Knapp Medical Center is one of only 12 hospitals in the entire state of Texas to receive all three “Women’s Care Specialty Excellence Awards” from Healthgrades, a national healthcare information company. The three awards are for Obstetrics and Gynecology, Labor and Delivery, and Gynecologic Surgery.
Knapp has also received several awards for patient safety, including an excellence award from Healthgrades. To continue to protect the safety of patients, staff, and the community, all patients and healthcare workers are screened at the entrance of the hospital during this time.

The Knapp Labor & Delivery (L&D) Unit has seven private rooms where mothers labor and deliver in the same room. Knapp recently installed new high-tech patient beds which are benefitting new mothers during the labor and delivery process. The new state-of-the-art “Stryker Labor & Delivery beds” are particularly beneficial for mothers in labor who receive an “epidural” for pain management.
The epidural helps numb the pain from contractions during the birth process – but may also make it more difficult for the patient to move. The new beds at Knapp Medical Center help the patient by moving her forward at a push of a button — so that she is in the best position to deliver her baby. This makes it easier for the new mom because she doesn’t have to move or lift herself.
Adjacent to the Labor, Delivery & Recovery (LDR) rooms are two operating rooms for mothers requiring a cesarean section. The same nursing professionals who assist the patient in labor are also trained to assist the obstetrician during the cesarean section, offering continuity of caregivers.
Patients recover briefly in Labor & Delivery before being moved to a private room in our refurbished Postpartum Unit, where they may choose to have their newborn “room-in” with them.
The newborn nursery is also located on the same floor, just a short distance from the postpartum rooms.
Prior to the baby’s arrival, expectant parents can pre-register at the Knapp Medical Center Admitting Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Pre-registration for C-Section deliveries should be scheduled by the attending physician.
