WESLACO — Knapp Medical Center is proud to announce that it has achieved a four-star rating for its high levels of quality healthcare, being provided in the Mid-Rio Grande Valley, in accordance with the recently released “Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings” by the U.S. Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The star rating, based on a system of one to five stars, is available on the CMS hospital comparison site at https://www.medicare.gov/hospitalcompare/, and is determined by Knapp Medical Center’s overall performance in a survey comprised of questions related to key areas of service and experience, called the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS).
The uniform survey is designed for former patients of a hospital, who have received inpatient care, and asks a wide range of questions related to their hospital stay, including communication with nurses and physicians, responsiveness of hospital staff, overall rating of the hospital, and willingness to recommend the hospital.
Knapp Medical Center is one of only two hospitals in Hidalgo County to receive a four-star rating from CMS.

Knapp Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer, Anna Hinojosa, said Knapp’s outstanding rating is demonstrable proof that patients at Knapp Medical Center are receiving excellent care and is an important tool for local residents to recognize when they weigh their healthcare options.

To determine overall star ratings, Knapp’s results on seven measures of patient experience regarding the care they received are compared to the same results from other healthcare facilities.
